Skoda is planning to launch a new petrol variant of their Kodiaq SUV in India by 2020. Currently, the Skoda Kodiaq comes only with a diesel powered engine in India since its launch in 2017 and now according to a report, Skoda plans to bring in a petrol powered option to India which is already available in the international market to help it compete better with a lower entry price.
In the international market, Skoda Kodiaq comes with a 1.4-litre TSI and a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine options.
The 1.4-litre TSI petrol motor produces 150 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque coupled to a 6-speed manual with front-wheel drive and a 7-speed DSG with a front-wheel and all-wheel-drive options. The 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine produces 190 PS of power and 320 Nm of torque and comes mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox only and all-wheel-drive option.
The current engine on the Kodiaq in India is a 2.0-litre TDI which produces 150 PS of power and 340 Nm of torque coupled to a 7-speed DSG gearbox with an all-wheel-drive.
Skoda is expected to only bring the petrol 1.4-litre TSI 150 PS / 250 Nm variant to India. Skoda may also bring the performance-oriented diesel powered Kodiaq RS which debuted at the Paris Motor Show 2018 to India which has a 2.0-litre TDI diesel which makes 240 PS of Power and 500 Nm of torque with a top speed of 221 kmph.
In India, Skoda Kodiaq features full LED headlights with illuminated cut crystal elements and LED daytime running lights, crystal elements illuminated LED tail lights, electrically operated boot lid and 18-inch Trinity alloy wheels. The interiors feature stone beige leather upholstery, keyless entry start / exit system with engine start/stop button, panoramic sunroof extending to the rear, Skoda audio player with touchscreen functionality, 3-zone climate control, roll up sun visors and 2 Skoda umbrellas with one-touch operation.
The Skoda Kodiaq competes with the likes of Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner SUVs in India and has a price starting from INR 35,36,599 ex-showroom.
