Renault India introduced the Duster SUV 10 years ago in the Indian market. The brand has had a successful stint since the first unit rolled out in 2012. Now, reports suggest that the brand is planning to discontinue production on the Renault Duster from the brand’s Sriperembudur plant in Chennai. The Renault Duster is one of the most successful products in the French brand’s portfolio, with sales touching the 40,000 mark in its first year of production. Renault sold the Duster SUV only in the first-generation avatar, and even though the SUV is highly popular, the brand did not upgrade the Duster in India.
Renault Duster – Highlights
The Renault Duster was the first SUV in the Indian market that brought in the monocoque mid-size SUV segment. Under the Nissan-Renault partnership, Nissan also introduced the Terrano SUV, which was on sale from 2013 to 2020. The Renault Duster features a boxy SUV design language with spacious interiors and a large boot space. The BO platform that underpins the Duster is also the base for multiple vehicles in the Renault-Nissan portfolio.
Renault Duster – Powertrain
Renault introduced the Duster with a 1.6-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre K9K diesel motor. Renault also introduced the AWD variant on the Duster that not only gives the SUV off-road capability but also the supple suspension system offers comfort on both roads and broken Indian terrain. During its mid-life facelift, the brand also replaced the 1.6-litre engine with a new 1.5-litre engine. The brand also continued to retail the Duster during the BS6 update. During the BS6 shift, Renault also introduced a new 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine.
Renault Duster – Replacement
In the international market, Renault has already introduced the new-generation Duster. But, the French manufacturer has not revealed any plans of introducing the new Duster in the Indian market anytime soon.
