Ahead of its official launch, Suzuki Motorcycle has unveiled the upcoming electric scooter in India. The scooter is based on the Burgman Street and will be named as the e-Burgman.
Suzuki e-Burgman : More Details
In terms of looks, the e-Burgman looks pretty much identical to the regular Burgman Street. This is infact a good move as EV buyers tend to appreciate the non radical versions of electric vehicles. The more they are closely linked to normal vehicles, the more they are accepted. Likewise, the e-Burgman measures 1,825 mm long, 765 mm wide and is 1,140 mm tall. The kerb weight of the scooter is 147 kg.
Powertrain of the Suzuki e-Burgman
Suzuki has categorised the e-Burgman under the Class-2 light electric scooter. Hence, it is powered by an AC synchronous electric motor. This electric motor has a peak torque of 18 Nm and max power of 5.36 BHP. Suzuki offers a lithium ion battery with the scooter that is good for a claimed range of 44 km. This range is good when riding at a speed of 60 km/h.
Suzuki e-Burgman and competition in India
Coming to the electric market in India, the Suzuki e-Burgman is expected to take on the likes of the TVS iQube and the Bajaj Chetak. We also have the Ola’s S1 and S1 Pro along with Äther 450X in the mix. Recently, Honda also announced that it will be coming up with an all-electric Activa. This is a good time for a buyer to be in the market. More competition = better products and service for the consumer.
In other news, Suzuki has updated its range of offering with OBD2-A and E20 compliance norms. The scooter range includes Access, Avenis and Burgman street. Further, the scooters are also E20-ready and hence they will now be able to run on 20 per cent ethanol-blended fuel.
