MG Motor India’s new EV patented in India

Written by News Team

MG Motor India, in collaboration with JSW, has unveiled an ambitious plan to introduce a new electric vehicle (EV) every three to six months. This strategic move aims to replicate what Sajjan Jindal, MD of JSW Steel, refers to as “The Maruti Moment.” As part of this initiative, MG Motor India recently secured a patent for the BinguoEV in India.

BinguoEV: Key Details and Features

  • Origin and Launch: The BinguoEV was initially launched in Indonesia by the SAIC-GM-Wuling group in December 2023. Now, MG Motor India plans to bring it to the Indian market.
  • Competition: The BinguoEV is expected to compete with other electric vehicles in India, including the Tata Tiago EV and Tata Punch EV.
  • Dimensions: The BinguoEV measures 3,950 mm in length, 1,708 mm in width, and 1,580 mm in height. It boasts a 2,560 mm wheelbase and offers 790 liters of boot space.
  • Platform and Interior: Built on the SGMW Global Small Electric Vehicle platform, the BinguoEV shares some interior elements with the MG Comet EV.

  • Design Highlights:
    • Curvaceous body with smooth sheet metal profiling, reminiscent of the new Fiat 500.
    • X-shaped LED elements in the headlights.
    • Water-splash design wheel caps on 15-inch wheels.
    • Dual-tone floating roof.
    • X-shaped LEDs in the tail lights.
    • Disc brakes on all four wheels.
  • Color Options: The BinguoEV is available in three colors: Milk Tea, Mousse Green, and Galaxy Blue.

  • Powertrain Options in Indonesia:
    • 31.9 kWh battery with a 41 bhp motor, providing a range of 333 km.
    • 37.9 kWh battery with a 68 bhp motor, offering a range of 410 km.
    • Supports DC charging, with the port located on the front right fender.
  • Additional Benefits in Indonesia:
    • Lifetime warranty (with conditions).
    • Free 7 kW charger.
    • Complimentary accessories.

Market Implications

MG Motor India’s reputation for competitive pricing could position the BinguoEV as a compelling option in the electric vehicle market. The BinguoEV-derived vehicle will most likely be positioned above the Comet EV and below MGs upcoming Cloud EV. This would slot it in competition with the Tiago EV. Budget-conscious buyers seeking an alternative to traditional petrol cars may find the BinguoEV appealing, especially given its potential lower price point compared to the Tata Tiago EV.
