MG Motors had unveiled the MG eZS electric SUV last year at the Guangzhou Motor Show. MG Motors plans to launch this electric car in India by the end of 2019. This will most likely become the second car in the MG line up to come to India, after the MG Hector SUV. Also, the all-electric model was recently spotted testing in camouflage covers on Indian soil hinting that the launch plan for 2019 is on track. For obvious reasons, the brand will soon try to launch the eZS and continue with their momentum as just the Hector in the showrooms alone would not make business sense.
The eZS is an electric variant which is a near identical version of the MG ZS SUV which has a conventional internal combustion engine but, has different alloy wheel design and a blue body colour specific to the electric model. The MG eZS is in the production form in China and on the interior, it gets a touchscreen infotainment system and for India, it is expected to get the iSmart system as seen on the Hector, large panoramic sunroof and more. The charging port on the MG eZS is on the front, tucked away under the grille and the car has 5-spoke alloy wheels.
The MG eZS in China is powered by a 150 HP electric motor which can propel the car from 0-50 kmph in just 3.1 seconds and can deliver a range of 335 Kms on a single charge as per NEDC cycle. Whether it will be launched in India with the same powertrain is still a question.
MG is likely to bring the eZS via the CKD route and assemble the car in India. Even the batteries for the car are expected to be locally assembled for cost benefits rather than importing them from abroad. MG will also try to comply with the FAME II scheme so that they get subsidies on the pricing of the eZS, which will benefit the customers and lower the asking price.
MG revealed its Hector mid-size SUV in India a few days back which comes with more than 50 connected features and plenty of best-in-segment features. The MG Hector is also the first internet connected mid-size SUV in India and comes with a 5G ready infotainment system with voice assistance. The MG Hector can seat 5 people and it has been rumoured that a 7-seat option will be launched next year.
