Mercedes-Benz India has added the largest most luxurious SUV in its brand portfolio, the Mercedes-Benz GLS. As of now, the brand has only added the ‘coming soon’ tab on its website where prospect buyers can register interest and is a clear indication that the brand will be launching the SUV soon in the Indian market. Mercedes-Benz unveiled the 2020 GLS almost a year ago at the New York International Auto Show in 2019 and was expected to debut in India at the Auto Expo 2020, but the brand did not showcase the large SUV in India.
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS is 5,207mm in length, 1,956mm in width and has a wheelbase of 3,135mm, which makes the 2020 Model Year 77mm longer, 22mm wider and gets an extra wheelbase of 60mm as compared to its predecessor. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS for the first time gets two individual seats in the third row in the six-seater variant.
In terms of its exterior, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS features an upright front fascia with a bold & imposing twin-slated chrome-accented grille, a layered bumper with chrome accents, a silver skid plate, a wide air dam, raised bonnet lines and MultiBeam LED with 112 LEDs per headlight unit integrated with an LED daytime running light as a standard part of the pack. The GLS on the sides gets squared-off wheel arches, large alloy wheels, silver roof rails, chrome window sills, an integrated spoiler on the rear, LED tail lamps with 3D inserts etc.
On the interiors, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS comes with a multilayered dashboard that features the latest generation dual-panel 12.3-inch MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system with the latest generation telematics. The twin screens are placed in the same plane and one acts as an instrument panel and another as the in-car infotainment. The dashboard also features squared air-con vents, a touchpad on the central tunnel, ambient lighting and control mounted steering wheel.
The longer length and the extended wheelbase also allows the SUV to gain an 87mm of legroom in the second-row seats when the seats are in their rearmost position. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS also comes with a 5-zone automatic climate control air-conditioning.
The brand has not yet revealed the launch dates for the SUVs launch in India but it is expected to be revealed soon as health situations in the country normalise on the health front.
