Key highlights

  • Brand-new Nissan X-Trail SUVs are available at a massive discount of INE 21 lakh.
  • The vehicles are being sold by Big Boy Toyz at INR 29.5 lakh instead of the original INR 50 lakh price.
  • The X-Trail struggled to sell due to its high price and lack of key features compared to rivals.

The Nissan X-Trail, launched in India at INR 50 lakh (ex-showroom), is now available at a massive discount of INR 21 lakh, bringing the price down to INR 29.5 lakh. The offer comes from Big Boy Toyz (BBT), a premium used car dealership, which has acquired zero-mileage X-Trail units and is selling them at a significantly lower price2.

Why Is the X-Trail Selling at a Discount?

Nissan introduced the X-Trail in India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), meaning it was imported rather than locally assembled. While the SUV boasts a premium design and hybrid powertrain, it struggled to attract buyers due to its high price and lack of key features.

The X-Trail comes with a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, producing 160 bhp and 300 Nm of torque. While this setup is efficient, it falls short compared to rivals like the Toyota Fortuner (201 bhp, 500 Nm) and MG Gloster (212 bhp, 478 Nm), which offer more powerful diesel engines.

What’s the Catch?

The discounted X-Trail units are being sold by Big Boy Toyz, not Nissan India’s official dealerships. BBT has acquired around 80 units through a third-party wholesaler, and these SUVs are brand-new with no prior registration. Buyers can register them at any Regional Transport Office (RTO) across India.

Should You Buy One?

While the INR 21 lakh discount makes the X-Trail an attractive deal, buyers should consider its feature limitations. The Indian-spec model lacks leather upholstery, ventilated seats, a powered tailgate, and ADAS, which are available in international variants. Additionally, the third-row seating is cramped, making it more practical as a five-seater.

Market Position and Rivals

At INR 29.5 lakh, the X-Trail competes with SUVs like the Skoda Kodiaq (INR 46.89 lakh) and Jeep Meridian (INR 27.80 lakh). While it offers a hybrid powertrain, its feature list and performance may not justify the price for some buyers.
