Mercedes-Benz has launched the 2021 New GLA SUV in the Indian market. Performance aficionados need not worry as the brand also introduced the AMG GLA 35 4M sold as the top-of-the-line GLA. The brand had plans to introduce the SUV in April 2021 properly, but due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mercedes-Benz delayed the plans. Mercedes-Benz announces that the 2021 GLA and the AMG GLA 35 4M will be available across the country following local economic activities and adhering to all local guidelines.
Price and Variants
The Mercedes-Benz GLA will be available via the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route. This makes the SUV the 13th CKD model and the 3rd AMG model in the India portfolio. The SUV will be available in both petrol and diesel powertrain options. The brand also offers an 8-year warranty on the Engine and Transmission of the GLA and AMG GLA 35 4M. Additionally, Mercedes-Benz also offers a 3-year Comprehensive warranty on the GLA and AMG GLA 35 4M.
The entry-level model is the GLA 200 that comes with a price tag of INR 42.10 lakh ex-showroom. The entry-level diesel, GLA 220d, comes at INR 43.70 lakh ex-showroom. The GLA 220d 4M comes at the price of INR 46.70 lakh ex-showroom. The performance-oriented variant, the AMG GLA 35 4M, is priced INR 57.30 lakh ex-showroom. It is important to note that all the prices are introductory. The brand has also revealed that from 1st July 2021, Mercedes-Benz will revise the price list by up to INR 1.5 lakh on the ex-showroom. This means the introductory offer ends on 30th June 2021.
2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA
Mercedes-Benz positions the 2021 GLA in its vast SUV portfolio, including the GLC, GLC Coupe, GLE, GLE Coupe, GLS and the G-Wagon. The GLA features a stylish and sporty design that claims to appeal to the new-generation Mercedes-Benz customer. The SUV measures large dimensions featuring the segment-best wheelbase at 2729 mm and 1037 mm of headroom.
The GLA comes with features such as a satin chrome grille element and a new generation of headlamps. The car features 18-inch and 19-inch Alloy Wheels shod with wide rubber tyres. The Mercedes-Benz GLA comes with a signature SUV design language with a progressive roofline and wraparound tail lamps. The SUV gets trapezoidal wheel arches and silver skid plates on the front and the rear of the SUV.
The SUV comes with features such as New Generation NTG 6 MBUX infotainment system. The system features Mercedes me connect with Over The Air updates and features such as Alexa and Google voice integration, Remote engine start, Live Traffic etc. The SUV also gets a Panoramic Sunroof, Ambient Light with 64 colours, wireless charging and Wood/Aluminium Trim. The GLA comes with 2 Zone Automatic Climate Control AC with Pollen, Charcoal and HEPA filter.
2021 AMG GLA 35 4M
The Mercedes-Benz AMG GLA 35 4M comes with an Adaptive AMG suspension and leather embossed SuperSport steering wheel. The car also gets AMG SPORTS PACKAGE Exterior with AMG specific grille and bumpers and exhaust outlets. The AMG GLA 35 4M also comes with larger 19-inch AMG Spoke Wheels and MULTIBEAM Headlamps. The car also features AMG differentiating factors on the interiors, such as ergonomically contoured sport seats in DINAMICA microfibre with red stitching, flat-bottom steering wheel, etc.
Powertrain
The Mercedes-Benz GLA comes with a 1.3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. This motor produces 163 Hp of power and 250 Nm of torque. The diesel option comes with an OM654q 2.0-litre four-cylinder transverse-mounted diesel engine. This engine produces 190 Hp of power and 400 Nm of torque. The petrol engine comes with a 7G-DCT gearbox, while the diesel engine comes with an 8G-Tronic gearbox.
The AMG GLA 35 4M comes with a 2.0-litre in-line-four-cylinder petrol engine. This engine produces 306 Hp of power and 400 Nm of torque to propel the SUV from 0-100 km/h in just 5.1 seconds. The SUV is also capable of achieving a top speed of 250 km/h. The AMG GLA 35 4M comes with a four-wheel-drivetrain and an 8G-Tronic transmission.
Safety
The SUVs also come with a plethora of safety features such as Pre-Safe and 7 Airbags including Knee Airbag. The SUV also comes with Active Brake Assist, Active Bonnet for Pedestrian Safety, Active Brakes, ESP, ABS with EBD and Attention Assist.
