Mercedes-Benz India is set to expand its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio with the launch of the EQA electric crossover. Scheduled for July 8, 2024, the EQA will join the existing lineup of EVs, including the EQB, EQC (now discontinued), EQE SUV, and EQS.
The new EQA SUV, which will make its debut in India the following month, embodies the concepts of “Intuitive Technology” and “Progressive Design,” as defined by Mercedes-Benz. New-age consumers looking for a combination of sportiness, agility, and eco-friendliness are the target market for this vehicle. The EQA promises an exciting and useful driving experience, and it is made to satisfy the changing needs of ecologically conscientious and highly aware consumers.
Design and Features
The EQA facelift features a sleek, crossover-like design with a grille panel showcasing Mercedes’ signature star pattern and a full-width light bar at the front. Inside, the cabin boasts a touch-capacitive three-spoke steering wheel, a digital driver display, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with the latest OS, and a Burmester sound system with Dolby Atmos. The India-spec model may also include optional open-pore wood trim.
Powertrain and Range
While specific details for the India-spec EQA are yet to be confirmed, international markets offer four variants: EQA 250, EQA 250+, EQA 300 4Matic, and EQA 350 4Matic. The EQA comes with a 66.5kWh battery pack, providing a maximum range of 528km (WLTP). Charging options include an 11kW AC charger or up to 100kW DC fast charging.
Expected Pricing and Rivals
Prices for the EQA are likely to be slightly below the EQB, which currently starts at Rs 77.75 lakh. The EQA will compete against rivals such as the Volvo XC40 Recharge, BMW iX1, and even Kia’s EV6.
