Maserati GranTurismo Folgore hits the Formula E Circuit

Written by Rohit Tonapi

On the day of the Rome e-Prix, a prototype of the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore full-electric took it to the street circuit. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares rode the prototype car around Rome’s Formula E Circuit.

The new GranTurismo Folgore will also be the first model in the company’s lineup to adopt 100 per cent electric solutions. The word ‘Folgore’ itself means lightning. The production hub for the new model is the Mirafori plant. The model will debut in 2023. Maserati says the all-electric GranTurismo will be a true icon for the brand. Apart from this, the company adds that the model will offer the characteristic Maserati sound, cutting-edge technical solutions, superb performance, elegance, and comfort, all typical of the Italian brand.

Maserati’s future electric plans

Maserati is looking ahead into the future, particularly in Formula E. Maserati is set to be the first Italian manufacturer to compete in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The Italian luxury marque will also be the first one to have a full-electric lineup. The transition to an all-electric lineup will be complete by 2025. By the end of 2030, Maserati plans to have no mild hybrids or hybrids and only have full-electric cars in the lineup.

2024 Maserati Grecale Folgore

The all-electric version of the recently unveiled Maserati SUV is the Grecale Folgore. The model utilises a 400V architecture. The SUV gets a large 105 kWh battery that makes up to 800 Nm of torque. Although not confirmed, Maserati will likely use dual-motors to include an All-wheel-drive setup. The Grecale Folgore looks identical to the ICE-powered Grecale for the most part. However, there are some key differences, such as a unique grille and Folgore-specific wheel designs.

The SUV has a length of 4,846 mm, a width of 2,163 mm and is 1,670 mm tall. The overall design language follows the Maserati traits. Traits such as the low and imposing grille. The new boomerang taillights add to the personality.

As for the interiors, the car features a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display, the largest ever in a Maserati. Additionally, it gets an 8.8-inch display to control the various car settings and air-conditioning. Rear-seat occupants get a display as well, located between the front seats. Maserati Intelligent Assistant (MIA) Multimedia system takes care of the in-car experience.
