Maruti Suzuki has completed the installation of a solar power plant at its Manesar facility. The 20 MWp carport type solar plant setup will also be Asia’s largest. The initiative will contribute 28,000 MWH2 per annum to the company’s energy requirements. This power generation is equivalent to the energy required to produce over 67,000 cars annually. Maruti Suzuki has been a top adopter of renewable energy. In 2014, the carmaker installed the first solar power plant of 1 MWp capacity at its Manesar facility. Then this was upscaled to 1.3 MWp. In 2020, Maruti Suzuki also commissioned a 5 MWp carport style photovoltaic solar power plant at its Gurugram facility.
More Details Of The Project
Now with the new 20 MWp solar plant at Manesar, the company’s combined solar power generation capacity across its plants stands at 26.3 MWp. Maruti Suzuki confirmed that this expansion will lead to the avoidance of 20,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year. This 20 MWp carport style solar power plant gets a thoughtful design. It uses the lowest area per unit of power generation, leveraging the East-West direction concept. The concept helps in maximising energy generation using minimum land. The facility also has space to park about 9,000 finished vehicles.
