Written by Parichay Malvankar

Maruti Suzuki has officially confirmed the debut of their Futuro-E electric car concept at the Auto Expo 2020. Maruti Suzuki wants to hint at the future of green mobility with this concept and the Futuro-E will be a coupe-styled EV. The Futuro-E has been designed and conceptualized in India and for the younger urban audience looking for a stylish and environmentally friendly car. The brand claims that the design will have its structure symbolizing geo-organic forms.

Maruti Suzuki will be introducing the Futuro-E as mass market EV, but it will not be a mainstream SUV design and architecture. The coupe SUV styling will help the brand position it as a new age car and the brand claims that there would be a unique paint schemes for this car to allow for light to be reflected in a way to make the car look more dramatic. Since it is completely Made-in-India, when launched, it could be aggressively priced. One can imagine a realistic driving range to be around 200-300 km on such a car, as the Tata Nexon EV is already to hit the market.

The sketch which is revealed shows us the LED headlamps with DRLs, LED tail lamps, sloping roofline of course, rear spoiler, turn indicators on ORVMs, sculpted wheel arches, bold front end with muscular bonnet crease lines, and a rising window sill towards the rear. Now we don’t know specifically which segment this product would fall into, but we expect Maruti Suzuki to keep the Futuro-E a sub-4 metre product for tax benefits.

Maruti Suzuki will be launching the WagonR based electric car soon, and it has been spotted testing numerous times. When launched, this would become the most affordable battery-operated Maruti car, and why not, the WagonR is one of the bread & butter models for the brand. But are the budget conscious Maruti Suzuki buyers ready for the electric revolution? Time will tell…
