Mahindra has filed patents for new word marks at the Indian Intellectual Property office. This leads us to believe that the brand could be planning to launch its electric line-up of vehicles soon in the country. The word marks filed at the IPO are XUV 7XO, XUV 5XO, XUV 3XO and XUV 1XO.
Mahindra XO Nomenclature
We think that the brand will be introducing four electric vehicles. We believe these could be the Mahindra BE.05, BE.07, XUV.e8 and XUV.e9 electric SUVs. However, no other details on this is currently available and this is merely a speculation. To dwell further we also think that the revised nomenclature will distinguish the Concept cars from the production models. On the other hand, speculation is also that Mahindra could potentially be planning to introduce full electric versions of its ICE powered vehicles.
Mahindra INGLO Platform
The Mahindra INGLO platform will underpin the dedicated electric vehicles in the Indian market. The brand has already revealed five EV concepts. The EV concepts in their near-production avatar have been out on Indian roads testing the XUV.e vehicles. This leads us to believe that the brand is very close to debut the XUV.e series vehicles in the Indian market.
Mahindra has also signed a supply agreement for electric components with Volkswagen. The collaboration includes Volkswagen’s MEB platform as well as its unified cells. Both companies will also be exploring further opportunities for collaboration in India, in the field of electric mobility.
Currently, Mahindra only retails the XUV400 a full-electric EV in India. This competes with the Tata Nexon EV in India. However, it is important to note that the word mark patents filed at the IPO does not necessarily mean that the manufacturer will use the name. Sometimes, manufacturers file patents to protect their intellectual properties in the market.
