MG Motor India has filed a new trademark ‘Excelor’ at the Indian Intellectual Property office. The new new trademark is likely to be for the brand’s upcoming new Electric Vehicle in the Indian market. Currently, the brand retails the MG ZS EV and the MG Comet EV in India. The new Excelor EV is likely to sit in between the Comet and the ZS EV. However, no further details of the electric vehicle are known. But speculation is that the new EV could come to India by the festive season.
MG Excelor EV – What Can It Be?
Back in 2023, MG showcased its electric vehicle line up at the Auto Expo Delhi. From its global portfolio, MG showcased the MG Marvel R, MG eHS SUV, MG eRX5 SUV and the eMG6 hybrid sedan. However, none of the cars share the Excelor name tag in the international markets. Therefore, it is difficult to speculate which type of EV the brand is likely to bring to India. One theory suggests that one of these vehicles, showcased at the Auto Expo could come to the Indian market rebranded as the Excelor.
MG Working with JSW
Recently, JSW acquired nearly 35% stakes in the Indian arm of MG. Together, with JSW, which is among the largest conglomerates in India, MG Motor India could focus on the EV category accelerating its adoption in the country. The company also plans to make announcements on its future plans on the 20th March 2024.

Additionally, MG Motor India is also likely to bring the mid-cycle update for the MG Gloster SUV as well as plans to introduce a new car in India. This new car could be the new MG Excelor EV. However, just filing a trademark does not necessarily warrant that the brand will bring the car with the same moniker. Sometimes companies file trademarks in various countries to protect their intellectual property.
Will the brand bring a new EV to India, or is this just a IP protection exercise, we are yet to find out.
