KTM India has unveiled the KTM 890 Duke R, in the Indian market. Priced at INR 14.50 lakh, this new offering will fill the void the Duke 790 had created after being discontinued.
KTM Duke 890 R Engine and Performance
The KTM 890 Duke R is powered by a liquid-cooled, 2-cylinder, 4-stroke, DOHC parallel-twin engine that complies with EURO 5 standards. The engine boasts a displacement of 889 cc, producing 121 horsepower at 9,250 rpm and 99 Nm of torque at 7,750 rpm. With a compression ratio of 13.5:1, the bike ensures high performance and efficiency. The power is transmitted through a six-gear transmission system, and the engine management is controlled by Bosch EMS with Ride-by-Wire (RBW) technology.
Design and Features
Built on a Chromium-Molybdenum-Steel frame, the KTM 890 Duke R uses the engine as a stressed element to enhance the bike’s rigidity and stability. The frame is powder-coated for durability, and the subframe is made of aluminum, also powder-coated. The handlebar is aluminum, tapered with a diameter of 28/22 mm, providing a comfortable and ergonomic riding position.
KTM Duke 890 R Suspension and Brakes
The bike features WP APEX 43 front forks with adjustability for compression and rebound, while the rear suspension comprises a WP APEX Monoshock with high and low-speed compression, rebound, and hydraulic preload adjustments. The suspension travel is 140 mm at the front and 150 mm at the rear, ensuring a smooth ride on various terrains.
The braking system includes dual Brembo Stylema four-piston calipers with 320 mm discs at the front and a single Brembo piston floating caliper with a 240 mm disc at the rear. The bike is equipped with Bosch 9.1 MP ABS, featuring cornering ABS and supermoto mode for enhanced safety.
Advanced Technology
The KTM 890 Duke R incorporates Motorcycle Traction Control (MTC), which is lean-angle sensitive and offers three modes with an optional track mode. The bike also features a DKK Dell’Orto fuel system with 46 mm throttle bodies, ensuring precise fuel delivery and performance. The pressure lubrication system with two oil pumps uses Motorex Power Synth SAE 10W-50 engine oil, and cooling is achieved through a water/oil heat exchanger.
In India, the Duke 890 R will compete with the Kawasaki Z900 and the Triumph Street Triple RS.
