Kia India recently launched its first-ever BEV, the EV6, in India. The South Korean company launched the EV6 in India at a starting price of INR 59.95 lakh ex-showroom. The carmaker plans to bring only 100 units of the car as CBUs (Completely Built Units) in 2022. The model will be available in two variants – GT-Line and GT-Line AWD. The former variant gets a single motor and an RWD drivetrain, while the latter gets dual motors and an AWD drivetrain.
Bookings of the EV were open for a short time before the launch. Prospective customers could book the EV6 by paying INR 3 lakh. At the launch event, Kia also announced that it received a total of 355 bookings. Hence, Kia India will bring additional units later. Customers will get deliveries of their EV6s starting from September 2022. This would be for the EV6 GT-Line AWD. At the same time, deliveries for the EV6 GT-Line with RWD will begin in December 2022. For newer bookings, Kia is quoting a wait time of ten months.
Kia’s RV EV for India in 2025
At the launch event for the EV6, Kia also made multiple announcements for a more sustainable future. One of these announcements was the development of a new RV EV for the Indian market. Kia did not reveal many details about this new product. However, the carmaker did reveal that the model will make its Indian debut in 2025.
Kia currently has the Carens in India. As Kia did not reveal much, it is up to speculations on what or how the new RV EV will be. Kia could build a new RV EV using a modified version of the currently available ICE platforms. At the same time, Kia could also equip the new RV EV with a new BEV-specific platform.
