Written by Kanad Kalasur

According to a media report, Kia is likely to get the EV9 in India sometime next year. The flagship EV from the Korean carmaker was earlier displayed at the 2023 Auto Expo as a concept.

Kia EV9 : More Details

The EV9 had its global debut back in March 2023. It is the most premium and biggest EV from the Kia brand. The SUV was designed by former BMW stylist Karim Habib.

In terms of design, the car gets a typical 2 box design. The car has an upright stance and three rows of seats. Depending on the variant, the SUV will come with multiple seating options.
According to Kia, the EV9 will take on the likes of similar EVs from Audi, BMW and Mercedes.

Powertrain of the Kia EV9

In the international markets, the Kia EV9 is offered with two battery sizes – 76.1 kWh and a 99.8 kWh unit. Further, while the rear wheel drive is standard and offered with both battery sizes, the all-wheel drive configuration comes only with the larger battery.

Kia 2.0 strategy for India

Kia has laid out its future development plans for India. Dubbed as the Kia 2.0 strategy, the plan includes a target of acquiring a 10-percent market share in the next few years. Alongside, Kia will bring in new models including the likes of the EV9 and other ICE vehicles.

On the service side of things, Kia aims to double its existing touchpoints to 600. This move will help the Korean carmaker to increase its share as well as volume of cars sold in the region.

The EV9 is expected to be a precursor to the mass-market EV that Kia is planning for India. This made-in-India EV will be arriving at dealerships by 2025 and Kia wants to be ready with the requisite infrastructure for the same. At present, Kia is following a top down strategy when it comes to EVs in India.
