After registering sales of more than 15,000 units of its Seltos SUV in the month of January 2020, Kia Motors has now launched the Carnival MPV in India at a price of INR 24.95 lakh ex-showroom, India. The Kia Carnival MPV is offered in three trim variants – Premium, Prestige and Limousine, where the top-end spec Limousine is priced at INR 33.95 lakh ex-showroom.
The Kia Carnival features a wide grated grill which the brand calls ‘Tiger Nose Grille’ with bumper-mounted fog lights and a faux skid plate. It has wraparound LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights (DRL), and a long bonnet. When viewed from the profile, the Carnival features 18-inch alloy wheels, power sliding rear doors and a floating roof design which houses dual-panel electric sunroof and a smart power tailgate which opens when the smart key is detected in close proximity.
On the interior, the Kia Carnival comes with a plethora of features which include smart pure air system which filters allergens from the outside and isolates the cabin air, sunshade curtains, touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 3.5-inch cluster LCD panel, a rearview camera, cruise control, smart key, optional Harmon Kardon sound system, 10.1-inch dual touchscreen rear-seat entertainment system, UV cut front door glass and windshield, 220V laptop charger and USB charger, pop-up folding seats, sliding seats, optional second-row Luxury VIP seats with leg support (on the Limousine trim) and more.
The engine powering the Carnival is a 2.2L VGT BS6-compliant engine that is a 2,199cc four-cylinder common rail direct injection motor which produces 200 ps of power and 440 Nm of torque mated to an 8-speed Sportsmatic Automatic transmission. The Kia Carnival is available in only one engine configuration on all three trim levels.
In terms of safety, the Kia Carnival comes with driver and passenger airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear disc brakes, ISOFIX and rear parking sensors on the Premium trim which comes in a 7 and 8 seater seating configuration. The Prestige trim which offers 7 and 9 seats and the Limousine trim which offers a configuration of 7 seats get features like Electronic Stability Control with Hill Assist Control, roll-over mitigation and Cornering Brake Control, side and curtain airbags and front parking sensors in addition to the features on the Premium trim.
At its price point along with its features and engine configuration, the Kia Carnival sits above the Toyota Innova Crysta in every aspect.
