A new hatchback for Indian market from Hyundai, the Grand i10 Nios has started its production run in India. The Grand i10 Nios will be a ‘Made-in-India’ hatchback and the brand is targeting millennial customers with this product. The 1st Grand i10 Nios has today rolled out from the production line at Hyundai’s plant in Sriperumbudur near Chennai, India.
Hyundai has over 2.7 million customers worldwide for the i10 & Grand i10 so far. Going by how popular the Grand i10 still is in India, Hyundai will allow the Grand i10 and the new Grand i10 Nios to co-exist in the showrooms. The Grand i10 Nios is the 3rd generation car with the i10 nameplate. India is the first country where the new generation i10 has rolled out, and the Grand i10 Nios will be officially launched on August 20th, 2019 in our market. Hyundai is all set to raise the benchmark in the B1 hatchback segment with this car.
The 2019 Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is expected to be sold with BSVI ready engines from day 1. The hatchback will come in multiple variants across diesel and petrol engine options. Expect a 1.2L petrol motor matched to a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT gearbox. The diesel powered version is expected to only get a 1.2L engine with manual gearbox option. A total of 10 variants, 3 diesel and 7 petrol are expected to debut later this month for the Grand i10 Nios.
Pricing is expected to be very competitive with the entry level model just undercutting the INR 5 lakh mark, ex-showroom. Expect the top trims of the Grand i10 Nios to be priced around INR 7.5-8 lakh, on-road. The Grand i10 Nios will be positioned below the Hyundai Elite i20. Talking about competition, it will rival the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift, Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Ford Figo, Tata Tiago, etc.
