Hyundai’s To Rival Tata Punch Soon
We had reported that Hyundai has been working on its entry-level SUV for quite some time now. But it is only now that its development is in full swing with multiple reports confirming the same. We understand that the launch will happen in the festive season of 2023.
Given the success of Tata Punch, it was imminent for Hyundai to launch a product to rival the same. Growing preference for SUVs over entry-level hatchbacks is also one of the key reasons why Hyundai aims to enter this segment. Based on the Grand i10 Nios platform, the product codenamed Ai3 CUV (Compact Utility Vehicle) will use the same platform as that of the Grand i10 Nios and Aura compact sedan.
We understand the SUV to be bigger in comparison to the Casper hatchback, which is offered in select international markets. For your reference, Casper measures 3,595 mm in length, whereas Venue is 3,995 mm long. Thus, Hyundai Ai3 CUV will have dimensions very similar to its primary rival Punch which is 3,827 mm long. Just like Punch, Hyundai entry-level SUV too will carry a muscular body paneling and thick body cladding. The idea is to produce a visually appealing big SUV at a price that matches mid- to top-spec variants of entry-level hatchbacks.
