The all-new Hyundai Creta, the country’s top-selling SUV crosses the 1.21 lakh mark in terms of the number of units sold since its launch in 2020. The first generation of the Creta was first introduced in 2015 and since then a total of 5.8 lakh units have been sold in the Indian market. Hyundai Motors India Limited, the country’s largest exporter mentioned that it exported around 2.16 lakh units of Creta from India.

India’s Most Loved SUV – All-New Creta

Hyundai mentions that of all the variants, the top-spec SX and SX(O) contribute to almost 51 per cent of the sales. Most car companies are staying away from diesel power mills but the South Korean carmaker is not on the same page and continues to provide multiple diesel engines in its lineup of products. In fact, the 1.5 litre U2 CRDi diesel engine contributes close to 60 per cent of the total sales of Creta which is quite a remarkable figure. This is also one of the main reasons why Creta is able to register such a large volume of sales. The automatic trims account for a healthy 20 per cent of the sales which suggest that customers are slowly transitioning from manual to the automatic gearbox.

Technical Details and Price

Creta comes with multiple engines and gearbox options. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor is available with either a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic. The 1.5-litre turbo diesel gets two gearbox options, one is the 6-speed manual and the other is the 6-speed torque converter automatic. Hyundai is also offering a 140 HP rated turbo-petrol engine mated to a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. There are a total of 5 trims under the Creta brand namely, E, EX, S, SX and SX(O). All the automatic trims are only available with the top-spec SX and SX(O) variant. The base E trim with the manual gearbox has a sticker price of INR 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom) meanwhile the top-spec diesel SX(O) with the automatic gearbox retails at an ex-showroom price of INR 17.48 lakhs.

In other news, a 7-seater version of the Creta, called the Alcazar is on the cards and the launch will happen sometime in the 2nd quarter of 2021.
