Honda recorded car sales growth of 7% in FY 2022-23

Honda Cars India has reported its sales figure for March 2023. The total sales stood at 6,692 units, with a 1.56 per cent YoY growth. This came into effect from 6,589 units sold in March 2022. The MoM sales, on the other hand, increased by 9.96 per cent over 6,089 units sold in Feb 2023. For the given period, the exports saw a 42.18 per cent YoY growth. Up from 3,189 units in March 2023, which is a good 946 units as against 2,243 units shipped in March 2022.

It also garnered a significant increase in exports on an MoM basis with 973 units exported in Feb 2023. This took total sales including domestic and exports adds up to 9,881 units in the past month. This is a growth of 11.88 per cent when compared to 8,832 units sold for the same period last year.

Significant Rise In The Number Of Honda Cars In India

Honda car sales during the Q1 2023 period reached the 20,599 mark. This translates to a 14.89 per cent de-growth over 24,203 units sold for the same period last year. The company sold a total of 91,418 units in domestic markets in FY 2022-23. This is up 7 per cent over 85,609 units sold in FY 2021-22. Exports, on the other hand, were at 22,722 units in the 2022-23 period. An increase from 19,401 units shipped in 2021-22 relating to a 17 per cent growth.

Honda Cars India Sales On The Rise

Honda Cars India achieved a good 7 per cent growth in domestic markets. All thanks to the sales of the Amaze, contributing to 33 per cent growth in the past fiscal. Exports too grew by 17 per cent as the company continues to fight with global chip shortage which has impacted production. City sedan was again the largest-selling midsize sedan in the country last year.

But chances are high that the new City sedan will add significant sales in the coming months. With aggressive pricing between INR 11.49-Rs 20.39 lakh (ex-sh). But, it will face tough competition from Hyundai 4th gen Verna that is priced closely starting at INR 10.89 lakh (ex-sh). Honda City will also face tough competition from the likes of the VW Virtus and Skoda Slavia.
