OFFICIAL! Honda discontinues Jazz, WR-V & 4th-gen City in India

Written by AnantaSaranNayak

Big news from the house of Honda Cars India. The Japanese carmaker has plugged the plugs from three of its models in the country: the Jazz premium hatchback, the WR-V sub-four-metre crossover and the fourth-generation City sedan. With this move, Honda only has the Amaze and the recently launched 2023 Honda City in its portfolio for now.

Why Did Honda Pull The Plug?

The Jazz, WR-V and fourth-generation City are quite old and were also not selling in good numbers. These older-generation Honda models had been on sale in the Indian market for a while now. All three are based on Honda’s older platforms and already have their latest successors as well, available in the overseas market.

As mentioned, the sales figure for all three models has been on the lower side for a while now. Another point to highlight is that their chief main rivals have moved on with the arrival of their newer versions. And with the RDE norms kicking in it does not make sense for Honda to spend money and resources on these older models.

Thus, Honda made the most sensible route of axing these models from its portfolio. There are already some talks about the brand’s future in India. As with just two models on sale, some serious questions are being raised.

Honda Cars India’s Future And The Road Ahead

But as we understand, Honda has mentioned that it has no such plans. In fact, it is already working to bring in brand-new models specifically for the Indian market. And the first product among the new ones that Honda plans to bring in is an SUV to take on the segment leader Hyundai Creta. We have already spied on this compact SUV on several occasions. Chances are high that Honda will bring in this model later this year.
