Written by Kanad Kalasur

Honda has been known to be the choice of enthusiasts as well as regular buyers who want the product range offered by Japanese company. However, at present, the Honda portfolio is pretty much limited in terms of different offerings. Due to the new RDE emission norms, many models including the diesel variants were discontinued. Currently, Honda only offers the Amaze and the City sedans.

Honda’s upcoming new launches

According to Kunal Behl, VP – Marketing and Sales, Honda plans to launch one new car every year till 2028. This means a total of 5 new models at the very minimum. However, he also clarified that these will not be all-new models, but will also include new variants of current models on sale.

Thanks to this move, the Japanese carmaker wants to increase its market share in the country. Infact, currently, Honda Cars India has a market share of 2.5 percent with its two models on sale.

Apart from ICE cars, Honda will also be planning an all-electric vehicle for the Indian market very soon. However, Behl did not specify the timeline for the same.

Overall, the carmaker expect a growth of 8 percent for the current fiscal. This means around 92,000 units. Further, the Japanese carmaker has already exported 23,000 units to countries like Turkey, Mexico South Africa and other West Asian regions. These have contributed to a 25 percent growth in exports.

Upcoming Honda SUV

The new Honda SUV will be a much needed relief for the carmaker. This SUV will take on the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda-VW twins Kushaq and Taigun, and others. Further, the average Indian buyer is looking for SUV and this Honda product could change the tide for the brand in India like the Honda City did to the sedan segment.
