Honda updated their CRF1100L Africa Twin to BS6 standards before the norms rolled out in the Indian market. The popular adventure touring motorcycle was one of the first Big Wing bikes to conform to the BS6 standards. Big Red also recently launched the CB500X in the adventure-touring segment. The segment is drawing quite a bit of attention worldwide as well as in the Indian market.

American cruiser specialist, Harley-Davidson also doesn’t want to miss out on its piece of cake and in February the brand launched the Pan America 1250 & Pan America 1250 Special. Now the American motorcycle manufacturer has also brought the Pan America 1250 adventure touring motorcycle to the Indian market, expanding its current portfolio of motorcycles.

Engine Specifications

Powering the Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 is a 1252cc Revolution Max series V-twin cylinder liquid-cooled engine. The engine comes with a chain-driven valve distribution system with self-adjusting lifters and a VVT (Variable Valve Timing) intake & exhaust system. The motor features velocity stacks with a downdraft intake and an Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection that helps produce 150 Hp of power. The Pan America 1250 comes with a 6-speed manual transmission.

The Honda Africa Twin comes with a 1084cc parallel-twin cylinder liquid-cooled engine. The 8-valve SOHC engine with Programmed Fuel Injection system (PGM-Fi) produces 98.2 Hp of power and 103.3 Nm of torque. The Honda Africa Twin comes with a 6-speed manual transmission as well as an automatic DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission).

Dimensions

The Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 measures 2,265 mm in length and comes with 1,580 mm of wheelbase. The motorcycle also features 210mm of ground clearance. The Pan America 1250 gets a 21.2-litre fuel tank and weighs 245 kg at the kerb. The Honda Africa Twin measures 2307 mm in length and 1558 mm of wheelbase. The motorcycle comes with 210mm of ground clearance. The fuel tank capacity is 24.5 litres and the Africa Twin weighs 249 kg at the kerb.

Suspension

The Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 features compression, rebound and spring preload-adjustable 47mm inverted front fork suspension. The motorcycle comes with compression, rebound and hydraulic spring preload-adjustable piggyback mono-shock with link-type mounting. The Honda Africa Twin comes with a fully adjustable rebound and compression on the 45mm Showa cartridge-type upside-down front fork. An adjustable 46mm cylinder and remote reservoir. The front suspension offers 230mm of wheel travel while the rear offer 220mm of travel.

Brakes

The Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 features twin-rotors with radially mounted, monoblock, 4-piston callipers on the front and single-piston floating calliper on the rear. The Honda Africa Twin features a hydraulic dual-disc setup on the front and a single hydraulic disc on the rear. Both motorcycles come with ABS for safety.

Colour & Price

The Pan America 1250 comes with two colour options – Vivid Black and River Rock Grey. The Pan America 1250 starts at the price of INR 16.90 lakh ex-showroom. The Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin Pearl Glare White Tricolour and Darkness Black Metallic colour options. The Honda Africa Twin is priced starting at INR 15.96 lakh ex-showroom.
