The Dacia Spring EV, which made its global debut in February 2024, has been spotted in Chennai, indicating that its launch in India is imminent. The Dacia Spring EV is essentially the next-generation Renault Kwid EV, and its presence in India marks a crucial step for Renault’s electric mobility strategy in the country.
Spotted in Chennai
The Dacia Spring EV was recently seen in a parking lot in Chennai, heavily camouflaged but unmistakable with the new Dacia logo prominently displayed on the test mule. Despite the camouflage, several design elements were discernible. The headlamps are positioned on the bumper, complemented by LED daytime running lights (DRLs) on top. The overall silhouette of the Spring EV closely resembles the current Renault Kwid, featuring wraparound taillights with a black plastic insert in the center and plastic cladding around the wheel arches extending to the rear bumper.
Interior Features
Inside, the Dacia Spring EV boasts a modern and functional design. It includes a 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel and a 10-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment unit, which is expected to support the latest connectivity features. These elements highlight the vehicle’s focus on providing a contemporary and user-friendly driving experience.
Powertrain and Performance
Globally, the Dacia Spring EV is available with two electric motor options: one producing 44 BHP and the other 64 BHP. Both variants are powered by a 26.8 kWh battery pack, offering a range of approximately 220 km on a single charge. The EV also supports fast charging via a 30 kW DC charger, which can significantly reduce charging times.
The Renault Kwid EV will be Renault’s first electric vehicle in India. It will face competition from the Tata Tiago.ev and the MG Comet EV. However, we can expect the Kwid EV to be priced very competitively, which could make it a popular choice among first time EV buyers.
