Koenigsegg is celebrating the CC8S’s 20th anniversary with a new limited edition model. As a tribute to the brand’s first production car, Koenigsegg has released the CC850. Koenigsegg is also claiming it is “the ultimate driver’s car”. The new hypercar is not just a Jesko in new clothing but an all-new model with a lot of exclusive features.
The Swedish brand’s founder, Christian von Koenigsegg, also brought along the original CC8S at the world premiere of the CC850. With the Jesko sold out, the CC850 will be the next hypercar Koenigsegg will be busy producing. However, as we mentioned, it will be a limited edition model.
The 50 in its name signifies that Koenigsegg will be making only 50 units of the CC850. This also commemorates Christian von Koenigsegg’s 50th birthday. Koenigsegg did not reveal pricing or availability. But given the exclusivity, expect it to be costlier than the Jesko.
Koenigsegg CC850 – What Is It?
To put it in short, Koenigsegg calls it TWMPAFMPC. This stands for – The World’s Most Powerful & Fastest Manual Production Car. Let’s check out why Koenigsegg is claiming this. Mechanically, the CC850 is closer to the modern Koenigseggs such as the Regera, Jesko and Gemera than the original CC8S. Visually, it combines the best bits from the three modern Koenigseggs with the CC8S. It features a removable hardtop, its signature door system and circular taillight clusters. Furthermore, it also gets teledial wheels similar to the original CC8S.
Powering the CC850 is a slightly different version of the brand’s 5-litre twin-turbo V8. The CC850 produces less power than a Jesko. However, with 1,385 HP, it is double the original CC8S. Meanwhile, the torque figure is also 1,385 Nm. The CC850 uses a carbon fibre monocoque chassis with carbon and kevlar panels. Thus, resulting in a low weight of 1,385 kg. The brand has not revealed any performance figures. However, Koenigsegg did mention that it will not break any of the Jesko’s track or top speed records.
Koenigsegg CC850 – It Is A Manual, But Also An Automatic
Koenigsegg has equipped the CC850 with what it calls the ‘Engage Shift System’. The unique gearbox is a mix of manual and automatic gearboxes. In automatic mode, it is essentially the ‘Light Speed Transmission’ similar to what is present in the other Koenigseggs. But you can also make it act like a 6-speed gated manual gearbox, complete with a clutch. The Light Speed gearbox has 9 ratios, so it can alter ratios depending on the drive mode.
