Mercedes-AMG has just revealed the official photos of the new G 63 AMG 4×4². The company announced the new model on Mercedes’ G-Class Private Lounge website. The model will feature portal axles and massive ground clearance for the ultimate off-road capabilities. Mercedes also says it will be the last of its kind, also hinting that the next G-Wagen could be electric.
The new G 63 4×4² is no standard G 63. It joins the special high-riding range in the company’s lineup. The previous models in the lineup include – the 2013 G 63 AMG 6×6, the 2015 G 500 4×4² and the 2017 Mercedes-Maybach G 650 Landaulet. Besides the official photos, the company also posted a video with the Head of Product Management for G-Class showing us the highlights of the new model.
The company did not announce the model’s details, pricing or availability but mentioned it will do so later. However, Mercedes says the model will be available only for a limited period of time. Hence, the company prompts G-Wagen collectors to act fast if they want one.
2023 Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4² – Highlights
The new model looks more like a beefed-up and more exclusive version of the G 500 4×4². The G 63 4×4² gets wider fender add-ons, 22-inch wheels with off-road focused tyres, plenty of carbon fibre accents and roof-mounted LEDs. The model gets a full-size 22-inch spare wheel and also a carbon fibre spare wheel cover. Mercedes showed two cars which feature new exterior colours – Hyacinth Red Magno and Green Hell Magno. The latter pays tribute to the infamous Nurburgring Nordschliefe. The new model will be available in a total of 40 different exterior colours. Hence, Mercedes says it also makes it the most customisable G-Class special-edition ever.
The carbon fibre theme continues on the inside as well. In addition to this, it also gets a special start-up screen on the digital instrument cluster. The G 63 4×4² also features a digital rear view mirror, leather-wrapped steering wheel and the company’s finest Nappa leather upholstery. The ambient lighting now also extends onto the AC vents. The trademark grab handle on the passenger side also gets special engraving.
2023 Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4² – Off-Road Capabilities
When it comes to off-roading, the new model will be the most capable current generation G-Wagen. The new special edition offers independent suspension at the front with the signature portal axles. The figures for the model are also impressive. The G 63 4×4² has an approach angle of 45 degrees, and ground clearance is up to 351 mm. At the same time, it also has a 951 mm wading depth. The new model raises the limits of the new model even further.
2023 Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4² – Powertrain
The G 63 continues to use a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 under the hood. The motor produces 585 PS and 850 Nm of torque. The company has not revealed performance figures for the new model. However, given the aerodynamic disadvantage, huge wheels and extra weight, expect it to be slower than the regular, non-squared G 63. A highlight of the new model is the portal axles. However, it is not something we have not seen in an AMG G-Class before. It was first seen in the limited production G 63 AMG 6×6.
