First BMW M Division car to feature electrified drive completes final tuning process. To announce this, the company released a gallery of the upcoming XM. The photos only show a camouflaged prototype. However, BMW released some of the specifications of the high-performance SUV, which include power and torque outputs for the base model.
BMW XM will premiere globally this year as a part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the BMW M Division. Production will take place in the Spartanburg plant in Germany, and deliveries will commence in December 2022.
BMW XM SUV – What Does The Prototype Reveal?
The SUV will sport the latest split headlight design, similar to the new 7-Series and X7. Furthermore, the prototype also shows a massive grille and sculpted body lines. BMW will also offer optional M light-alloy wheels. These will measure 23-inches in size. Apart from this, the rear of the XM prototype shows the vertically-stacked quad exhaust pipes.
There are also interior shots, but they don’t reveal much. However, we get to see a few carbon-fibre accents, red leather upholstery, and the steering wheel design. The BMW XM will most likely feature a curved-infotainment screen like the iX.
BMW XM SUV – Powertrain
The new teaser images also came with details for the powertrain. The standard version of the XM SUV will use a newly-developed V8 and an electric drive. The combined output will be 653 PS of power and 800 Nm of torque. Following this, a higher output variant will arrive, but we don’t know the name for it yet. However, we do know it will produce 748 PS and 1000 Nm of torque, just like the Concept XM. With all the power and torque on offer, both versions will have sportscar-rivalling performance.
BMW says it will also feature “the first hybrid-specific M xDrive four-wheel-drive system”. Additionally, it will also get an electronic differential lock for the rear axle. The plug-in hybrid powertrain will be capable of a full-electric range of roughly 80 km on the WLTP cycle. While BMW confirmed other technical specifications, it did not specify the battery capacity or charging times.
