Bentley has revealed the latest iteration of its iconic Flying Spur, now featuring a V8 plug-in hybrid powertrain. This marks a departure from the traditional W12 engine, which has been a hallmark of the model since its inception.
A New Era of Performance
The new Flying Spur is equipped with Bentley’s “Ultra Performance Hybrid” powertrain, combining a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with an electric motor. This setup delivers a combined output of 771 horsepower and 1000.5 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful four-door model in Bentley’s history. The hybrid system allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds, outperforming its W12 predecessor by nearly half a second.
Enhanced Efficiency and Range
The 25.9-kWh battery pack provides up to 47 miles of electric-only driving range, contributing to a total range of 515 miles on a full tank of gas. The car features four driving modes: Pure EV, Electric Boost, Regenerative Braking, and Charge, allowing drivers to optimize performance and efficiency based on their needs.
Subtle Design Refinements
While the exterior design of the new Flying Spur remains largely similar to its predecessor, Bentley has made several subtle enhancements. The front end now features a more prominent grille, and there are three new sets of 22-inch wheels to choose from. Inside, the cabin boasts a new digital gauge cluster, an updated infotainment system, and a new diamond quilt pattern for the seats. Laminated windows further enhance the cabin’s quietness.
Luxury and Customization
Bentley continues to offer extensive customization options for the Flying Spur. Customers can choose from 22 hide colors, 11 secondary colors, and four split combos, resulting in over 700 unique interior combinations. Additional options include eight wood veneer choices and three technical finishes, allowing for a truly personalized luxury experience.
Market Position and Pricing
The new Flying Spur is expected to arrive at dealerships later this year. While Bentley has not yet announced the pricing, it is anticipated to be higher than the previous model, which started at $214,000.
Bentley’s shift to a V8 plug-in hybrid for the Flying Spur is a clear indication of the brand’s direction towards more sustainable and efficient luxury vehicles.
