Indian Electric scooter manufacturer Ather Energy concluded with the ‘Warp Vs Petrol’ event that the brand had hosted, bringing motorcycle and racing enthusiasts to Aruani Grid, Sarjapur in Bengaluru. The one of a kind event gave select motorcycle aficionados a chance to experience the warp mode of the Ather 450x on the race track. But that not it. The Ather 450x pitted against six internal combustion engine-driven motorcycles including the 250cc Sport, 250cc Dirt, 390cc Sport, 390cc ADV, 400cc Sport and 650cc Classic motorcycles in three challenges – a 100-meter drag race, an obstacle and slalom course and a 4×1500 meter relay race.
The Challenge
The challenge brought together 7 riders including professional rally riders, stunt bikers, auto journalists and veteran auto enthusiast, Anand Dharmaraj the founder of Indimotard Adventure. The aim was not to race with the Ather 450x but to relate the electric scooter with the race track, which most were sceptical off and thought the electric scooter did not belong to the race track. So, 6 different motorcycle segments starting from the quarter-litre to the 650-twin challenged the Ather 450X in a series of hurdles on the track which included the three events mentioned above.
The Results
In the first challenge, the 100-metre dash, the Ather 450x stood 5th with a time of 5.44 seconds. The 390 Adventure took the first place with the time of 4.45 seconds, in the second place the 390 Sport (4.58 seconds) and in the third place the 250 Dirt with 4.59 seconds on the clock. In the obstacle course, the Ather 450x stood third with the 390 Adventure emerging as the winner followed closely by the 250cc dirt. In the Relay Race Team Warp won with a time of 4 minutes 13 seconds putting Team Petrol in the second place with the time of 4 minutes and 20 seconds. Participants also took dozens of additional laps on the Ather 450X to experience the electric scooter’s unbelievable prowess both on-road and even the race track.
