Another EV, Oben Electric motorcycle spotted testing

Written by AnantaSaranNayak

The electric segment of the country is growing very rapidly. With this, we are witnessing an influx of new electric vehicle companies in the country. Oben Electric, a Bengaluru based EV startup, is testing its electric motorcycle prototype. Recently, spy shots of the two-wheeler EV on Indian roads surfaced on the internet. This suggests that the motorcycle is now in the testing phase. Oben EV seems to have a very long term vision. The company already has 16 patented innovations.

Details We Know So Far?

From the spy shots, we cannot collect much information. The test vehicle is fully camouflaged, but we do know the overall silhouette of the motorcycle, and the design seems quite distinctive. The motorcycle is quite compact, thus making it agile and helping filter through city traffic. Keeping with the current trend in motorcycles, Oben’s EV bike also gets classic styling elements, thus making it a neo-retro breed. The round headlamp, along with the sculpted bodywork, adds to the overall outlook. Further enhancing the look are the alloy wheels. Contrary to the concept motorcycle that got a split seat, the prototype unit had a flat single-piece seat.

Powertrain and Performance Details

As of now, we do not have any official battery or motor rating. But, Oben Electric did mention that the motorcycle is capable of breaking the 100 kmph mark with a range of 200 km on a single charge. Furthermore, the motorcycle can also sprint from 0 to 40 kmph in under 3 seconds. The charging time claimed by the company is 2 hours. But with the use of an external DC charger, riders can accomplish a full charge much faster.

Keeping with the trend, we expect the Oben electric motorcycle to get all the latest features. This includes an LCD instrument cluster, connected tech, riding statistics, multiple driving modes and more. One thing is sure, the motorcycle is fully indigenous, thus resonating fully with the central government ‘Make In India’ initiative. We expect the official launch of the motorcycle to happen this quarter and the deliveries to start from early April.
