Written by Akhil Dalvi

British luxury car manufacturers Jaguar and Land Rover recently announced that they will offer Amazon Alexa support on all their cars. The two manufacturers stated that all their existing and future vehicles with the Pivi Pro Infotainment System will support Amazon Alexa. Currently offered for UK and US customers, the Alexa system will offer natural voice interaction for Pivi Pro’s features. These include voice-enabled navigation, media playback, phone calls, and other compatible smart devices.

Benefits and Uses of Amazon Alexa

Based on Jaguar Land Rover’s Reimagine strategy, the integration of Alexa marks a considerable change for the capability of the connected service. Not only will this feature act as a modern luxury experience for customers, but it will also accelerate Jaguar Land Rover’s transformation. To become a digital leader within the automotive industry, the engineering team of Jaguar Land Rover collaborated with Amazon. The new Alexa experience will allow customers to access the car’s control via speech which offers greater functionality for the future.

JLR customers can use voice requests like ‘Alexa, navigate me to home’ and ‘Alexa, play my chill-out playlist’. Other examples of voice control include ‘Alexa show me nearby coffee shops’ and checking the daily news or weather. Along with allowing customers to manage their schedules or shopping lists, the system will ensure daily convenience and productivity. Alexa Automotive International states that it will ensure to add in new features and capabilities for JLR customers via OTA updates.

Partnership with JLR’s Pivi Pro System

First revealed on the all-new Range Rover, Amazon’s Alexa system will now feature on all JLR vehicles and its portfolio. Approximately 2,00,000 JLR customers will gain access to the Alexa functionality via a software-over-the-air (SOTA) update. Without the need for a retailer, customers can enable the latest technological developments and voice-activated features after scanning a QR code. Once the scanning is complete, customers can then link Alexa to the Pivi Pro infotainment screen by following simple steps.

The Pivi Pro infotainment screen on JLR’s will then display ‘Skills’ by which customers can utilize additional Alexa features. Only applicable for US and UK customers, the system will allow them to control and check their vehicle via ‘Skills’. Customers can check whether their car is fully charged or ask the vehicle to start their climate control system via speech. Other examples of this include checking the range of fuel in the vehicle or if the doors are locked.
