The Skoda Octavia was recently discontinued in India after the global model received its latest update. There have been talks that the 4th-gen Octavia will be making a comeback in India. Reports suggest that the new Octavia will be assembled locally to keep costs low.
The Comeback of Octavia
- Official Confirmation: Skoda has officially confirmed the return of the Octavia to India. The premium sedan is expected to arrive under INR 30 lakh.
- CBU Route: Initially, the Octavia will be imported via the completely built-up (CBU) route. However, the brand is deliberating on local assembly to strengthen its India portfolio.
- Timeline: While no specific timeline has been mentioned, the automaker is actively exploring the Octavia’s return.
- Engine Options: The Octavia will offer multiple engine options, including 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter petrol engines, along with a 2.0-liter diesel unit.
- Sportier RS Variant: Skoda is also considering the sportier RS version of the Octavia for local assembly in India.
Fourth-Gen Octavia
The fourth-generation Octavia is a remarkable upgrade, combining innovation, space, and modern design. It boasts an even more emotive design with the new Skoda design language, featuring a longer and wider body than its predecessor.
The front fascia showcases a butterfly grille, Matrix LED headlights, and a new LED daytime running light signature. Inside, the Octavia offers a multi-level dashboard design, back-friendly Ergo seats, and innovative connectivity and assistance systems. High-quality materials and clever details enhance the overall interior experience. The infotainment system includes the latest features, such as the Virtual Cockpit and head-up display.
The Octavia headed for India will miss out on the diesel powertrain. It is not yet clear if the 1.5 L or the 2.0 L petrol unit will make it to India. The Octavia RS on the other hand comes only with a 2.0 L unit producing 265 hp. To keep costs low, Skoda might bring the 1.5L instead of the 2.0L and will sell the RS alongside.
