International motorsport will soon make its return to India. ABB FIA Formula E confirmed that Hyderabad will be one of the venues on the calendar for the 2023 season. This will be the first time that Formula E will come to India. The news was confirmed by a provisional calendar for the 9th season of Formula E.
Formula E Race In India – Now Confirmed
The Formula E race in Hyderabad will be the first major international event since 2013. At the start of 2022, clean energy company Greenko, the Government of Telangana and Formula E signed a Letter of Intent to host a Formula E race. Back then, it did not guarantee a spot on the calendar. However, the new provisional calendar now confirms that it will be held in Hyderabad.
According to the calendar, Hyderabad will host the 4th round of the 9th season. The 2023 Formula E season will also feature the new-gen Gen3 race cars. They are currently the fastest and most powerful electric race car yet. Some of the teams for this year are – Mahindra Racing, Jaguar, DS Automobiles, Nissan, Porsche and NIO 333. The 2023 season will also see McLaren and Maserati enter the championship.
Formula E Race In India – Where Will It Be?
We know that it will be in Hyderabad city. So now let’s find out where exactly. The race will take place at the 2.37 km street track. The track is designed by Driven International. The firm is also responsible for the recent updates to the Yas Marina Circuit. In India, the company is also working on other upcoming race tracks. These include the Marque One Motor Club in Andhra Pradesh and the Nanoli Speedway near Pune.
The race track will go through Lumbini Park along the Hussain Sagar Lake. The CEO of Mahindra Racing said that even though it is a city race, it won’t be disrupting the general public as there are no civilian residencies around the track area. He also said that the organisers are in talks to host the race under the lights in the evening.
2023 Formula E Season 9 – Overview
As per the provisional calendar, the season will start on the 14th of January with the Mexico City E-Prix. It will then have two rounds in Saudi Arabia before making its way to India on 11th February. This season will start in January and end in July 2023. There will be a record 18 races over 13 cities around the world.
