2021 Skoda Octavia Sedan Review

Skoda is about the announce the prices on the fourth-generation Skoda Octavia in the Indian market. The very first Octavia rolled off the production line in Mlada Boleslav in January 1959. The nomenclature is derived from Eighth, which in Latin is known as OCTAVIA. The wordmark coincides with the brand’s eighth car in the line-up in its product portfolio.

Skoda Octavia History

In 1996, when Skoda Auto merged with the Volkswagen Group, the first generation Skoda Octavia was born. The Marque made its debut in the Indian market with the vehicle in 2001 with the First-Generation Octavia. The second-generation car debuted in 2006, setting new benchmarks by introducing the direct injection technology on petrol vehicles. Similarly, the third-generation model also set a new standard in functionality, practicality, and spaciousness. With the RS variant, the brand also offered unmatched performance along with the value in the segment.

Skoda Octavia Production In India

Now the Czech brand is rolling out the fourth-generation model. The brand already commenced production on the fourth-generation Octavia in the Indian market. In April 2021, the first car already rolled out of the Shendra production line in Aurangabad. The first unit in the celebratory Lava Blue colour pays homage to Skoda founders Václav Laurin and Václav Klement and the brand’s 125 years of history.

Skoda Octavia – Engine Specifications

Powering the Skoda Octavia is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. The motor pumps out 190 Hp of power and 320 Nm of torque. The TSI family engine is powerful and efficient and claims an ARAI mileage of 15.81 km/l. The engine comes with a 7-speed DSG gearbox that adapts to one’s driving style and considers the road conditions. The Octavia also features a ‘shift by wire’ technology which uses a minimalist rocker switch integrated into the centre console.

Skoda Octavia – Design & Dimensions

The Skoda Octavia measures 4,689 mm in length, 1,469 mm in height, 1,829 mm in width, and comes with a wheelbase of 2,680 mm. The Octavia also comes with 600 litres of boot space, expandable up to 1,555-litres. The car features a new hexagonal radiator grille with vertical slats and sleek headlamp units. The saloon gets a chrome finish on the air dam and sleek fog-light units as well. The Octavia comes with a signature long bonnet with a hallmark centre spine and the new Skoda Auto logo. The car features a character line on the side that runs to the vehicle’s boot lid. The rear also features new wraparound LED taillamps with a crystalline effect.

Skoda Octavia – Top Features

The Skoda Octavia also comes with Bi-LED technology headlamps and LED DRLs as standard. The Octavia gets aerodynamic features on the front bumper and 17-inch aero-optimised alloy wheels, contributing to the low coefficient of drag of just 0.24 Cd. 

On the inside, the Octavia features beige suede leather upholstery, a 25.4 cm infotainment display with integrated air-conditioning controls, dual-zone climate control, a new Skoda two-spoke steering wheel, fully digital instruments cluster with Canton speakers and touch control slider, USB C port, wireless smartphone charging, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto integration, ambient lights etc. 

The Octavia also comes with Simply Clever features that include gesture-operated LED reading light unit, smartphone pockets on the front seatbacks, a storage compartment in the front doors for an umbrella, easy open-cup holders, innovative cargo elements, roller blinds etc. 

Colour & Price

The Skoda Octavia will be available in Lava Blue, Candy White, Magic Black, Brilliant Silver, and Maple Brown colour options. The indicative pricing on the Skoda Octavia is between INR 25 lakh to INR 30 lakh ex-showroom.
