The 2020 Mahindra Thar has been spotted testing multiple times on the Indian streets and the spied images have brought us a lot of details before the car’s launch. And now, probably the most important report which is for the spied interiors of the SUV. According to the spied images, the 2020 Mahindra Thar on the interiors gets an all-black finish on the dashboard and the upholstery.
The centre of the dashboard has a provision for a large infotainment system which Mahindra is expected to add in the final stages. Below the audio system provision, will be two rounded air-conditioning vents and their controls located below them. The new AC controls are of a rotary type with push buttons below them. The lower area of the centre console gets a cubby hole and right above that is a 12V socket and a small storage space. The gear console now houses both the engine transmission lever as well as the transfer box lever, which was placed below on the driver side foot well in the current generation Thar. Behind the gear lever console is the button pad for the power windows of the car. The instrument console of the car gets a twin-dial setup with a digital multi-information display in the middle. The door pad gets a redesigned door handle with storage space below it. The seats on the 2020 Thar are ergonomically designed with a lot of bolstering and lateral support, finished in black with white contrast stitching. It is expected that Mahindra will still refine and make subtle changes to the interiors of the Thar, such as the power window buttons, etc. and the spied images are not a final design but only an overview of how things will be on the inside of the car.
The engine on the new Thar is expected to be BSVI compliant from the day of its launch and it is speculated to be a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder unit, that is expected to produce 140 PS of power and 300 Nm of torque and is likely to come with a 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options. The SUV will be offered in a 4-wheel drive option along with a low range gearbox. The current generation Thar comes with auto locking hubs and a Mechanical Locking rear Differential, while the former will be retained the latter is expected to be upgraded with a more advanced locking differential to give the Thar an edge, off-road.
The new Mahindra Thar is expected to do good in the crash compliance test and the front bumpers and new redesigned grille have been changed to plastic ones. Even the new fenders are in plastic. It also has a much larger windscreen and side windows, as compared to the current SUV for better visibility. The new Thar will also get safety features like front airbags, ABS with EBD, seat belt reminders for both driver and front passenger, over speed alert and rear parking sensors to come as standard to conform with the new safety norms.
The next-generation Thar is expected to debut at the 2020 Auto Expo.
