Yamaha has launched a new variant of the dual-sport Tenere. Dubbed as the Yamaha Tenere World Rally Edition, the new version celebrates Team Blue’s 30 years since the 1993 Dakar bike.
What’s new in the Yamaha Tenere World Rally Edition?
This new version of the Tenere is not just a sticker job. The Japanese bike maker has made some hardware changes as well. The World Rally Edition’ suspension comes with a higher degree of adjustment. It gets a fully-adjustable KYB front fork which now has 20 mm more travel than before. Even the piggyback shock gets a 20 mm extra travel. To help riders tackle off-road even better, the bike gets an Ohlins adjustable steering damper. This offers more off-road stability. Further, the Yamaha Tenere World Rally Edition also comes equipped with a road-legal titanium exhaust and carbon fibre slip-on from Akrapovic.
On the software side, there are now three ABS modes. The bike also gets a new TFT unit which replaces the earlier LCD unit. This screen can also be paired with the rider’s smartphone for maps and other notification alerts.
The two-section seat is now 15 mm higher at 890 mm as compared to the standard Tenere 700. The special edition also gets a 23-litre fuel tank, which is 7 more than the standard.
The bike is also finished in a unique Yamaha Rally Racing livery. It gets a majority blue paint with pink and silver finishes. This scheme pays homage to the heritage Yamaha off-road bikes. Apart from this World Rally Edition, Yamaha will also brand its competition dirt bikes in the same livery.
Powertrain of the Yamaha Tenere World Rally Edition
Yamaha has equipped this bike with the same 698cc parallel twin engine. However, the liquid-cooled engine now makes slightly more power thanks to the Akrapovic exhaust. The rated figures for the bike are 74.8 HP @ 9,000 rpm and 69 Nm of peak torque @ 6,500 rpm.
