As part of its Call of the Blue initiative, Yamaha’s main focus is on adding more premium products to its portfolio. Enhancing the customer experience is the addition of Yamaha Blue Square dealerships across the country.
Now, as part of Version 3 of the campaign, Yamaha has released a new video. In that, we get a glimpse of the highlights of its current range of motorcycles and scooters. But there’s an interesting catch. In the video, we also get to see the R7 fully-faired bike and MT-09 hyper-naked. Hence we can safely assume the possibility of these bikes arriving in India very soon. Going by the teaser, it looks like Yamaha will bring the MT-09 over the smaller MT-07 for India.
Yamaha R7
In the Indian market, Yamaha R7 will compete against the likes of the Honda CBR650R and Kawasaki Ninja 650. This motorcycle uses a 689cc, twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor that generates max power of 73.4 PS and peak torque of 67 Nm. The R7 uses a 6-speed gearbox with an integrated assist and slipper clutch. For clutchless upshifts, it also gets a quickshifter. All this adds up to give the R7 users a true supersport experience. The motorcycle uses inverted forks from KYB, which feature preload, rebound and compression adjustability for the front. Meanwhile, for the rear, the motorcycle gets a mono-shock suspension. Braking duty comes from 298 mm dual discs at the front and a 245 mm disc at the rear.
Yamaha MT-09
We have seen the Yamaha MT-09 for the Indian market earlier as well, albeit only for a brief period of time. The MT-09 gets an 890cc, inline 3-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor that churns out 119 PS and 93 Nm of torque. The latest version of the engine also includes a series of updates. Notable ones are a redesigned fuel delivery system, lightweight forged pistons, fracture-split connecting rods, offset and direct plated cylinders and a new air intake system.
Furthermore, performance and ride dynamics are now much better with the addition of a range of ride-by-wire systems. Some of the key technologies include lean-angle sensitive traction control system, slide control system, lift control system, brake control system with ABS and chip-based electronically controlled throttle system. Yamaha MT-09 also gets a new 3.5-inch full-colour TFT instrument unit that displays riding-related statistics like gear shift indicator, water temperature, air temperature, average mileage and remaining fuel level.
Internationally, the MT-09 is available in two versions – MT-09 and MT-09 SP. The teaser shows the MT-09 SP. However, it is unclear if Yamaha will bring the standard version or the higher-spec MT-09 SP to India.
