Volkswagen releases teaser for new Polo GTI Hot Hatch

Written by Nizam Shaikh

Volkswagen has revealed the upcoming Polo GTI ahead of its world premiere in June 2021. The first official design sketch gives us a glimpse of what to expect from the hot hatchback. The GTI variant will continue to be the sportiest model in the portfolio and comes with tweaks to the chassis, suspension and engine.

Design & Styling

The Volkswagen Polo GTI will be based on the 2021 Polo, which received a facelift last month. The brand will add some cosmetic distinguishing factors to the GTI model. The variant is expected to come with reworked front and rear bumpers, GTI badging on the grille, and large alloy wheels. The GTI version could also come with an aero optimised splitter and diffuser.

According to the design sketch, the Polo GTI features a honeycomb mesh lower bumper grille. The grille also incorporates two LED foglights on each side. The bumper features a wing-like structure in the middle and geometric structures flanking the ends. This could improve the airflow around the front bumper and channel air to cool the engine and braking components.

Mechanical Components

The Polo GTI could feature a new design alloy wheel that fills the wheel arch very well and comes with low profile rubber tyres. Volkswagen will also strengthen the chassis and make improvements for stability and agility. The hot hatchback will also come with a tuned suspension capable of offering a sporty drive and tackle everyday duties. The engine is likely to come in a higher state of tune, but the high torque motor will still have the same front-wheel-drive architecture.

Features

Expect the top-of-the-line model to carry over the latest features, such as new headlamps with LED light strips that extend into the grille. The GTI is likely to come with Adaptive Matrix headlamps and wraparound LED taillamps. The hatch will also get IQ—Drive Travel Assist, adaptive cruise control, a large touchscreen infotainment system, virtual cockpit instrumentation etc.
