Toyota in the last week shared a teaser of their first product, the result of Toyota-Suzuki joint venture that was in the news recently. The Toyota Glanza is the brands new hatchback based on the Maruti Suzuki Baleno which is due for a launch in June this year and now a few pictures of the new car have surfaced on the internet.
According to the leaked pictures, the exterior of the Toyota Glanza has only a few changes like a Toyota badged chrome grille on the front and Toyota logo with a Glanza badge on the back with a ‘V’ variant badging. Apart from this, there are no changes visually to the car on the outside. The interiors are yet to be seen and may remain the same as the current Baleno with only small changes to the trim and upholstery.
In the engine department, Toyota is expected to include only the petrol engine for the Glanza. The current petrol Maruti Suzuki Baleno is powered by a 1.2-litre, VVT, 4-cylinder engine producing 82.9 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque coupled to a 5-speed manual and CVT transmission option. Maruti Suzuki also retails a Smart Hybrid 1.2-litre, DualJet, VVT, 4-cylinder engine producing 89.7 PS of power and 114 Nm of torque coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission.
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno measures 3995mm in length, 1745mm in width, 1510mm in height and has a 2520mm long wheelbase. The same measurement specs are likely to be seen on the Toyota Glanza.
Toyota offers a 3-year / 1,00,000 km warranty on its cars as part of its standard pack in India and the same could be applied to the Glanza. In comparison, Maruti Suzuki India offers a 2-year / 40,000 km warranty as standard. Toyota may also offer extended warranty plans on top of the standard warranty.
The Toyota Glanza is expected to be sold in only two options, the top spec ‘V’ and ‘G’ and is most likely to be priced higher than the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. Toyota Glanza is expected to be launched in June 2019 in India.
