Toyota recently announced the launch of the new Glanza for the Indian market. And now the carmaker has confirmed that a CNG version is on its way. We do not have the official launch date as of yet, but it could take some time from now. Once Glanza arrives with the CNG kit, this will make it the first CNG-powered hatchback in the premium hatchback segment.
What Can We Expect From Glanza CNG?
Toyota will use the same 12-litre petrol engine, although, with CNG, we expect a lesser power output. In terms of the gearbox, Glanza CNG will most likely get a 5-speed manual unit. Toyota India’s official website confirms that the ‘e-CNG’ Glanza will return close to 25 kilometres per litre. In terms of pricing, the CNG version will cost around INR 50,000 to 75,000 more than the regular counterpart.
Glanza is basically a rebadged Maruti Baleno with minor, aesthetic changes. Both the hatchbacks are manufactured at the Suzuki Motor Gujarat plant, and we expect the same for the CNG variant. With this, we can also guess that Maruti Suzuki will also launch a CNG version of the Baleno. These will make them the only two CNG options in the segment, which includes the likes of Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz, Honda Jazz and likes.
2022 Facelift Toyota Glanza
Mechanically and in terms of interiors, Glanza pretty much resonates with the new Baleno. The key differences are the front fascia, alloy wheel design and interior colour shade. One big difference is the warranty tenure. Glanza gets a warranty of three years/1,00,000km as standard. Whereas the Baleno gets a standard warranty of just two years/40,000km. The outgoing Glanza was only available in two trims. And now, with the 2022 model, Toyota has introduced two new trims, namely E and S. And now with this, Glanza’s trim options match with Baleno’s four trim options. Priced at INR 6.39 lakh and 9.69 lakh, the Glanza is almost INR 3,000 to INR 20,000, more than its Maruti Counterpart.
