Tiguan facelift will be locally assembled, launch soon

Written by Nizam Shaikh

At the turn of the BS6 era, Volkswagen discontinued the Tiguan (5-Seater) in the Indian market. But we in the past revealed the brand’s SUVW strategy for the Indian market. Under the strategy, Volkswagen plans to launch four SUVs in the Indian market. This includes the VW Taigun, VW Tiguan facelift, VW Tiguan Allspace facelift and the second lot of VW T-Roc SUVs. The brand launched the Volkswagen T-Roc in March this year, followed by the recent debut of the Volkswagen Taigun. Now the brand has opened the “Register Interest” tab on the official Indian website for the Volkswagen Tiguan facelift. Speculation is that the brand will leverage the upcoming festive season to launch the new Tiguan facelift.

India-Specific Tiguan Facelift

The brand also showcased the India-spec Volkswagen Tiguan facelift in the Indian market. Also, the new Tiguan facelift will come with only a petrol-power powertrain option. In the past, the brand sold the Tiguan only with a diesel-engine option. But post BS6 era, the brand has been offering the Volkswagen Group’s TSI family efficient yet powerful turbo-petrol engines on VW cars in India. The brand is also likely to bring the Tiguan facelift via the affordable CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route. This will enable the brand to price the SUV competitively in the market.

Tiguan Facelift – Engine Specifications

Powering the Tiguan facelift in the Indian market will be a 2.0-litre four-cylinder TSI turbo-petrol engine. The engine produces 190 Hp of power and 320 Nm of torque, similar to the Tiguan Allspace (7-seater). The TSI power engine will come with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox and Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system as standard.

Volkswagen Tiguan Facelift – Features

The Volkswagen Tiguan facelift comes with features such as LED Matrix headlamps and LED taillamps. The SUV also comes with large 18-inch alloy wheels and a signature VW body design with new elements that differentiate the facelift from the outgoing SUV. On the inside, the SUV comes with features such as an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connected car technology and Android Auto & Apple CarPlay integration. The car also gets a Virtual Cockpit digital instruments display, three-zone climate control, leather seats, ambient lighting and a panoramic sunroof.

Competition Check

The Volkswagen Tiguan facelift will compete with premium five-seater SUVs such as the Jeep Compass and the Hyundai Tucson. Expect prices to be in the INR 25 lakh to INR 29 lakh ex-showroom bracket.
