Amid the global climate change scenario, the world is now moving towards cleaner automotive fuels. The Government of India too has taken a similar path and is now pushing for the same. Thus it has taken an ambitious target of reducing the emissions intensity by 45 per cent by 2030.
Hydrogen, given its relatively non-emission characteristics, is turning out to be one of the most viable environment-friendly solutions. In automotive applications, Hydrogen fuel cell technology is emerging as a promising alternative to traditional fossil fuels. Hence, Tata Motors has taken significant initiatives towards the development of hydrogen fuel-based products and has been leading the development of Hydrogen-powered vehicles.
The Tata Prima E.55S is one such industry-first product to move goods across the hubs and big cities in an environmentally-friendly manner.
The truck gets a slew of features. This includes a Multi-information cluster that gets an advanced infotainment system with 7-inch infotainment touchscreen. This system also gets Bluetooth compatibility and auxiliary connect support. With phone mirroring it offers easy navigation with saved maps and flexibility for usage in remote locations. The truck also gets Mobile pairing & compatibility that enables attending calls, reading SMS and playing videos. The equipped elegant steering wheel with button controls helps to navigate the infotainment system and the paired phone functions for convenience and control.
The projector headlamps with DRLs (Daytime Running Lights) come with integrated cornering lamps and enhanced day & night running illumination. These LED fog lamps are introduced to cater to extreme rainy and winter seasons, and different terrain driving conditions. The safety lamps include an LED side repeater along with door ajar and pedal lamps for enhanced safety
With the Hill Start Aid (HSA), the truck gets automatic roll brake function allowing the driver to comfortably execute uphill starts by preventing the vehicle from rolling backwards.
The equipped ‘Fleet Edge’ advanced telematics solutions with Prognostics augment the maintenance solutions. E.55S also gets Electronic Stability Control (ESC) that automatically intervenes when vehicle stability enters a critical area. This improves directional stability and mitigates rollover by reducing the speed. Another safety feature is the Driver Monitoring System (DMS) that sends alerts to the driver in case the driver is feeling drowsy and distracted
Collision Mitigation System (CMS) helps to mitigate a high-speed crash and increase safety. The Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) is a camera-based warning system that helps keep the vehicle in the lane. Other key features include Tyre Pressure Monitoring System,Truck Unitized Bearing, low-resistance tubeless tyres, washable moulded cabin interior, suspended driver seat and twin accommodation co-driver seats for enhanced comfort & convenience
The truck gets options with Type 3 cylinders to Support 350 bar of Hydrogen Fuel with a higher capacity range of 350 km to 500 km. Tata Motors claims a refueling time of less than 20 minutes. The available fuel stack with higher capacity ranges from 220kW to 240kw options. This truck is best suited for cement, coal, fly-ash bulkers, clinker movement, steel coil movement, bulk cargo, construction aggregates, haulage and distribution.
