Indian automotive manufacturer Tata Motors has been spotted testing a development prototype of the Nexon powered by CNG. Sources and spy images confirmed the rumours as the sub-compact SUV came out of a CNG-filling station in Pune. Based on reports, Tata Motors will introduce the CNG-powered version of the Nexon during the latter half of 2022.
On 19th January 2022, Tata Motors launched the CNG versions of the Tiago and Tigor for the Indian market. Therefore, if the brand does decide to launch the Nexon CNG, it will join its petrol, diesel, and electric counterparts. Meanwhile, enthusiasts also spotted Tata Motors testing a petrol-hybrid version of the Nexon back in December 2021.
Tata Nexon: Detailed HighlightsÂ
Back in 2020, Tata Motors updated the Nexon in India with a major facelift that included all-new features as well. The Nexon is priced at INR 7.39 lakh (ex-showroom) and comes in 5 variants – XE, XM, XZ, XZ+, and XZ+(O). Tata Motors offers the Nexon in 5 colour options- Foliage Green, Atlas Black, Calgary White, Flame Red, and Daytona Grey. Thanks to its signature ALFA architecture, the Nexon scored a complete 5 stars in the Global NCAP crash safety test.
The brand offers the Nexon with 2 engine options and 2 gearbox options to choose from, along with a fully-electric option. The 1.2-litre, turbocharged, three-cylinder petrol produces 120 PS and 170 Nm via a 6-speed manual or 6-speed AMT transmission. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel produces 110 PS and 260 Nm via a 6-speed manual or 6-speed AMT transmission.
On the other hand, the Nexon EV uses a 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that powers the electric motor. Via this combination, the Nexon EV produces 129 PS and 245 Nm via a single-speed transmission and multi-drive modes. The top-spec Nexon gets 16-inch, dual-tone alloy wheels, 2 airbags, ABS with EBD, an electronic stability program, and ISOFIX mounts.
Additionally, the compact SUV gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and IRA-connected car tech. Other convenience and safety features of the Nexon include Cruise Control, Rain-Sensing Wipers, and LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs. The Nexon also sports LED taillamp signatures, a cooled glovebox, a sunroof, reverse parking sensors with camera, TPMS, and Express Cool functionality.
