Written by Rohit Tonapi

India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, Tata Motors, has launched 5 CNG-powered trucks in the country. These also include India’s first CNG-powered Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCV). In addition to this, Tata Motors has also introduced a host of new features for the trucks. Furthermore, Tata also became the first CV manufacturer in India to equip its trucks with the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). Tata claims these will make trucks in India smarter, safer as well as more fuel efficient. Along with this, the brand also launched a new series of Intermediate & Light Commercial Vehicles (I&CV) tippers and trucks.

Tata Motors’ ‘Fleet Edge’

The new range of M&HCV and I&LCV come with the brand’s next-age digital solution for optimal fleet management, Fleet Edge. Tata’s ‘Sampoorna Seva’ program offers a host of services such as – on-site support, Uptime Assurance, Insurance and Accidental Repair, Breakdown Assistance, Extended Warranty and other add-on services.

India’s First CNG-Powered M&HCV Truck

After its successful run of its CNG portfolio consisting of SCV, I&LCV and buses, Tata Motors is expanding the range by introducing India’s first CNG-powered M&HCV in the 28- and 19-tonne nodes. Tata says the all-new Signa CNG trucks offer an optimal combination of low operational cost, high durability and multi-use applications. All these result in higher profitability.

These new eco-friendly trucks are also available with many wheelbases and load deck length options, and a cowl cabin option for cabin customisation. The 19-tonne is available in two deck length options – 20ft and 32ft. On the other hand, the 28-tonne is available in two deck length options as well – 24ft and 32ft.

Powering them is Tata’s proven 5.7-litre SGI engine, which makes 180 HP of peak power and 650 Nm of peak torque. Tata claims this is the most fuel-efficient engine in the segment and offers a driving range of up to 1,000 km. They also come with dual nozzles for fast filling.

India’s First Truck With ADAS

Since its launch in 2010, Tata’s top-of-the-line Prima range of trucks has set benchmarks for styling, comfort, safety, ergonomics and ease of operations. With this update, the Prima now becomes India’s first to get active and passive safety features such as Collision Mitigation System (CMS), Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Driver Monitoring System (DMS), Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and more.

Some other new features of the Prima range include a new 3-spoke steering wheel with controls, a 7-inch advanced HMI touchscreen integrated display with advanced connectivity features, an all-new instrument cluster and an easy-to-access switch panel. Tata says these enhancements will lower accidents, increase driving comfort as well as facilitate safer cargo movement across India.
