Tata Motors recently announced that it had won an order of 921 electric buses from Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC). As per the contract under the larger tender by Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), Tata Motors will supply, operate and maintain 12-metre electric buses for a period of 12 years. Tata Starbus is an indigenously developed vehicle that gets a contemporary design and best-in-class features.
Demand For Electric Buses On The Rise
This order is of paramount importance for Bengaluru’s growing need for clean urban mass mobility. BMTC will induct these modern electric buses that will attract maximum ridership for eco-friendly public transport. These environment-friendly electric buses will definitely benefit the residents of Bengaluru.
This is yet another milestone in the electric bus revolution we are witnessing across top metro cities in the country. Diesel buses are one the major contributors to carbon emissions. Hence, the transition to eco-friendly electric buses is a welcome move. Furthermore, going forward, it will open up more business opportunities and attract more customers to join. The bigger picture is that with more EVs on the roads, we will have better charging infrastructure. Hence all this will work in synergy to improve the EV facilities in the country.
Tata Motors In The EV Space
Tata Motors’ commitment to electric mobility also speaks for itself. In the passenger vehicle segment and the commercial segment, the company is investing heavily in EV R&D. Thus, Tata Motors has been at the forefront of developing smart and energy-efficient passenger commercial vehicles. As one of India’s largest commercial automakers, its development caters to future mobility needs. Tata Motors has recently received orders for 1,500 electric buses from Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and 1,180 electric buses from West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC), respectively. To date, Tata Motors has supplied more than 715 electric buses across multiple cities in India, which have cumulatively clocked over 40 million kilometres.
