At the start of the calendar year, 2020 Tata Motors launched the Tata Altroz premium hatchback made its debut with the Tata’s latest ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Architecture) platform and two engine options a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine both with BS6 emissions conformity.
Now according to a report, Tata is likely to commence production on the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine for the Tata Altroz which was reported earlier and was also spotted on test mules before lockdown. Earlier reports have also suggested that the engine could employ a variable geometry turbocharger. The production of the Tata Altroz with the 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine is expected to begin post lockdown and the engine is likely to be a detuned version of the three-cylinder 1.2-litre Turbocharged Revotron petrol engine from the Nexon compact SUV.
The turbo-petrol unit for the Altroz is likely to produce 102 PS of power and 141 Nm of torque matched to a 5-speed manual transmission and an optional DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) automatic gearbox. The 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine on the Nexon develops 120 PS of power and 170 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed AMT gearbox.
Powering the current Altroz is a three-cylinder 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that makes 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque and another four-cylinder 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine that produces 90 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque, both matched to a 5-speed manual transmission.
The Tata Altroz features large sweptback dual-chamber projector headlamp units, bumper-mounted fog lamps, chrome accent on the front, black mesh grille, LED daytime running lights, a wide air dam, piano black ORVMs with chrome inserts, 90-degree wide-opening doors, comet window beltline, 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, C-pillar mounted rear door handles, integrated roof spoiler, split tail lamps and black applique on the tail lamp section.
On the Inside, the Tata Altroz features a multilayered dashboard in dual-tone colour and a satin chrome dashboard embellishment, blue ambient lighting, metal finished inner door handles, flat bottom control mounted steering wheel, 17.78-cm digital instrument cluster, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear lever, 17.78-cm floating dashtop touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity features and Apple Carplay and Android Auto integration.
