Suzuki will launch the 155cc Gixxer motorcycle next week. Rumours have already started to suggest that Suzuki is also planning a semi-faired version of the Gixxer to rival the Yamaha Fazer. Nomenclature for this new variant hasn’t been decided yet, and the motorcycle will remain mechanically identical to its naked sibling albeit, with a semi-fairing.
The Gixxer is powered by a 154.9cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine producing 14.8 PS of power and 14 Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The engine boasts the Suzuki Eco Performance (SEP) technology which is expected to boost the performance and fuel efficiency figures. A telescopic front fork, monoshock at the back are quite the segment standard now. The motorcycle should ride on a 100/80/ R17 front tyre and a fatter 140/60 R17 patch at the rear. Stopping power comes from a disc brake at the front and a drum at the back. The naked Gixxer weighs 135 kgs, so expect the faired version to touch or cross the 140 kg mark. Apart from the changes to the front, with the addition of a semi-fairing, nothing else is expected to change. We might probably get new decals and different paint schemes for better differentiation.
Expect this faired version of the Gixxer to launch only in 2015. By that time, Yamaha should also be ready with the updated Fazer based on the recently launched Yamaha FZ Version 2.0.
