Stellantis, one of the leading automotive groups with cross-border ties between Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles and Groupe PSA revealed that the brand plans to bring 4 electric vehicle platforms under a new electrification strategy. The electrification strategy will allow the brand to improve and sustain profit margins in the near future.
Under the new electrification strategy, Stellantis has introduced the STLA Small EV platform that will offer a 500km/300mi of range. The second platform will be an STLA Medium with a range of 700 kilometres of 440mi on a single battery. The brand also has an STLA Large with a range of up to 800 kilometres/500 miles. The carmaker will also offer an STLA Frame version of the electric vehicle which also offers the same range as the STLA Large.
Stellantis also announced that the electric platform will come with a family of three electric drive modules. The EDMs claim to be compact, flexible and scalable. The drive module can also be configured for front-wheel-drive, rear-wheel-drive, all-wheel drive and 4xe. The EDMs will combine with high energy-density battery packs and boast to deliver best-in-class efficiency, range and recharging performance.
Stellantis also revealed that the battery packs are tailor-made for vehicles and the company will offer two battery chemistries. The company plans to introduce the high energy-density option and a nickel cobalt-free alternative by 2024. The brand also announced that, by 2026, Stellantis will introduce the first competitive solid-state battery technology.
Vehicles under the brand are likely to come with battery packs between 37 kWh and 82 kWh. The battery pack will have a 400V electric architecture with models having an electric motor output between 95 PS and 245 PS on the smallest platform. Depending on the model the largest one could come with a performance output of 897 PS in all-wheel drive.
